The Book Rack in University Hills is closing its doors permanently. The store will cease operations on Sunday, September 13, or earlier if the remaining inventory is sold out before that date.

This departure marks the end of a long history for the bookstore. For nearly 50 years, the shop served as a staple for readers in the Denver area. Owner Cathi Kern confirmed the upcoming closure but did not provide specific reasons regarding the decision to shut down.

The bookstore located at 4061 East Wesley Avenue became a fixture for the neighborhood over the last five decades. While the store winds down its operations, the community prepares to say goodbye to one of its longest-standing independent retailers.

As the final date approaches, residents and regular customers have a brief window to visit the shop one last time. The closure reflects a quiet end to a business that maintained a presence in Denver through nearly half a century of change.
