Bella Thorne is taking control of the upcoming Spring Breakers sequel. The former Disney star confirmed she is writing and directing the project in addition to her starring role. Production for the sequel was previously announced in 2025 with a different director attached, but Thorne confirmed she stepped into the role after the production team reviewed her work on her directorial debut, Color Your Hurt.
Thorne describes the upcoming film as a high-energy project that stands apart from the original 2012 cult classic. She noted that the era of the original film was defined by extreme scrutiny regarding young actors, but this project aims for a different tone. While Harmony Korine, the director of the original film, is not involved and has stated he has no interest in the project, the sequel retains producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner from the first team.
The cast includes Grace Van Dien, Ariel Martin, and True Whitaker. Thorne shared her enthusiasm for the project during a recent podcast interview, stating that the film captures a high-energy atmosphere from start to finish. Fans of the franchise can expect a distinct approach to the sequel as Thorne transitions from her work in front of the camera to helming the production entirely.
