A federal lawsuit filed in Delaware accuses singer Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and co-founder Daniella Pierson of defrauding investors in their mental health startup, Wondermind. The plaintiffs, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind SPV I LLC, claim the founders misled them about the company's infrastructure, partnerships, and operations for over three years.
According to the complaint, investors provided nearly $1.2 million under the impression that the startup would build a mobile app, secure advertising deals, and feature significant celebrity involvement. The suit alleges that Gomez was supposed to be a key marketing lead but remained largely disengaged. Furthermore, the investors state that many of the touted partnerships never materialized and the promised app was never developed.
Legal trouble escalated following media reports from Forbes and The Cut that portrayed the company as being in disarray. The Forbes article questioned Pierson’s previous business successes, while The Cut alleged that internal conflicts, including a family dispute between Gomez and Teefey, and operational dysfunction, crippled the venture from the start. Investors claim that Teefey later misrepresented the existence of an escrow account intended to return their funds, leading them to pursue legal action for securities fraud and breach of contract.
This litigation seeks a formal rescission of the investment contracts and additional damages. The filing contends that the defendants failed to provide accurate updates, instead opting to conceal the company's financial instability while ignoring requests for transparency. As of the filing date, representatives for the founders have not offered a response to the specific allegations outlined in the court documents.
