‘Blade Runner 2099’ Teaser: Michelle Yeoh Goes Cyberpunk in New TV Spinoff
Amazon Prime Video just debuted the trailer for the upcoming series Blade Runner 2099 during San Diego Comic-Con. This live-action production returns to the iconic science fiction setting established by the original 1982 film and its 2017 sequel.
Michelle Yeoh leads the cast as Olwen, a replicant engineered for manual labor who nears the end of her life. Hunter Schafer joins the project as a co-lead named Cora. The series features a large ensemble cast that includes talent such as Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, and Sheila Atim. Silka Luisa serves as showrunner for this new entry in the long-running franchise.
Ridley Scott, who directed the first film based on the writing of Phillip K. Dick, remains involved with the series production. While the original movie faced initial financial difficulty and mixed critical reception, it eventually became a foundational work for the cyberpunk and neo-noir genres. The new series aims to continue the expansion of this cinematic universe following the success of the 2017 follow-up.
Fans can expect the series to arrive on Prime Video on November 25. The trailer offers a first look at the visual style of this future setting. It marks the latest chapter for a property that includes multiple short films and an anime series titled Black Lotus.
