Fans are already moving to secure seats for the upcoming release of Dune: Part Three. Despite the film hitting theaters on December 17, prime spots for opening weekend screenings are selling out fast at high-end venues.
The demand centers on the 70mm IMAX format. This specific presentation is limited to just 25 theaters across the country. In the Bay Area, the AMC Metreon in San Francisco and Regal Hacienda Crossings in Dublin are the only locations offering this technical experience. Evening showtimes for the first three nights at the Metreon are fully booked, with only limited front-row seats remaining.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film continues the blockbuster series starring Timothée Chalamet. The franchise has proven to be a massive financial success for Warner Bros. Pictures, with the first two installments generating over $1.1 billion at the global box office. The series remains tied to the local history of the source material, as Frank Herbert wrote much of the original novel in San Francisco.
While 70mm IMAX tickets are scarce, moviegoers still have options. Less specialized screenings at venues like Apple Cinemas on Van Ness still have available capacity. For those determined to see the film in the premium format, some early morning showtimes in Dublin remain open for now.
