Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a feature film adaptation of the New York Times bestseller The Final Girl Support Group. The project is under the direction of Christopher Landon, known for his work on the Paranormal Activity franchise, Happy Death Day, and Freaky. This adaptation marks another collaboration between Landon and author Grady Hendrix, who previously worked together on My Best Friend’s Exorcism.

The film centers on a therapeutic support group for six survivors of mass-murderer rampages. These characters are the real-life equivalents of the final girls made famous by slasher movies from the 1980s and 90s. The source material, which earned the 2021 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Horror Novel, examines the lives of these survivors after the cameras stop rolling and their pop-culture fame fades.

Production duties fall to Adam Goldworm of Aperture Entertainment and the filmmaking team behind It, Andy and Barbara Muschietti, under their Double Dream label. While previous attempts to develop the property as a series for HBO Max included different producers, this current version signals a clear path to the big screen under the Paramount banner.

Landon brings a deep background in horror to the project. Beyond his directorial credits, he has written and produced for Paramount on multiple occasions. His recent work continues to maintain his footprint in the genre space, including his directorial effort on the Blumhouse thriller Drop. As the project enters active development, the studio looks to leverage both Landon’s experience with franchise horror and the established success of Hendrix’s literary catalog.
