Production is underway for the upcoming Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes. Recently, the cast was spotted at the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing in London to film a sequence mirroring the band's iconic 1969 album cover.
Harris Dickinson stars as John Lennon, while Barry Keoghan plays Ringo Starr. Paul Mescal takes on the role of Paul McCartney, with Joseph Quinn appearing as George Harrison. This project consists of four separate films, with each focusing on one specific member of the group. Sony Pictures is backing the project, and the production has secured permission from both McCartney and Starr, as well as the estates of Lennon and Harrison.
The original album cover photograph was captured on August 8, 1969, by freelance photographer Iain Macmillan. He shot six stills from a ladder in the middle of the road, and the band selected one for the final release. The new production team is working to recreate these historical moments with attention to detail.
In addition to the main cast, several other actors have joined the project. Saoirse Ronan portrays Linda McCartney, James Norton appears as Brian Epstein, and Lucy Boynton plays Jane Asher. The films are currently scheduled for release in April 2028.
