Industrial metal pioneers Godflesh are preparing to release their penultimate album titled Decay. The project is scheduled for release on September 25 and marks a significant moment for the band as they approach the end of their recorded output.
The new single Living/Ending provides an early look at the record. Justin Broadrick described the track as a return to the heavy mechanical sound found on the band's debut, Streetcleaner, mixed with the density of their Slavestate EP. Listeners can expect the familiar crushing rhythm sections and intense vocal delivery that defined the band's influence on the industrial music scene.
The creation of this album was a physically demanding process for Broadrick. He confirmed that the majority of the material was recorded before he underwent hernia surgery earlier this year. Some final elements were finished while he experienced physical discomfort, which he noted stands in contrast to the philosophical and existential pain usually expressed in his music.
Following health complications related to his hernia, Broadrick has made the decision to retire Godflesh from touring. He stated that the intense vocal requirements of the project are no longer sustainable for him. Moving forward, he intends to focus on his other creative projects, Jesu and JK Flesh, while working to complete a final, less physically demanding studio album by the end of 2026.
Decay will feature six tracks, including Master and Slave and Feral Colony. This release serves as a deliberate conclusion to one of the most significant projects in the industrial metal landscape.
