In her statement, she recalled the studio environment as being almost church-like. She spoke about the process of waiting for his ideas to emerge from his keyboard or guitar before she would begin to write. Madonna noted that he pushed her to sing in ways she had never attempted previously, allowing her to experiment with words without needing them to make strict sense.
The producer first gained notoriety by remixing her tracks such as Erotica and Justify My Love before taking on the role of primary collaborator for the Ray of Light project. Their work together continued on later albums including Music and MDNA. Madonna shared a video of the two of them accepting their Grammy Award for Best Pop Album in 1999 alongside her tribute.
