Sophia Laforteza, the leader of the global girl group Katseye, is taking a temporary break from all promotional activities. The announcement came from Hybe and Geffen in a joint statement posted on the Weverse platform on Friday. The company confirmed that Sophia is stepping back to prioritize her mental health and general well-being.
Medical professionals advised this period of rest to ensure Sophia makes a full recovery. While she remains eager to perform with her fellow members Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung, the company confirmed that her condition will be reassessed in September. Updates regarding her status will follow at that time.
Sophia addressed the situation on her personal Instagram account, noting that the decision is difficult but necessary. She emphasized that taking this time to care for her mind and body is the only way to return to the stage and continue her work. She thanked fans for their ongoing support and asked them to remain behind the group during her absence.
This hiatus occurs at a busy time for the group. Katseye is scheduled to release their new documentary, Katseye: Wild Hearts, this coming Wednesday, followed by their third EP, titled Wild, on August 14. Sophia is the second member of the group to step back for mental health reasons, following an announcement regarding Manon Bannerman earlier this year in February.
Katseye functions as a multinational pop group based in Los Angeles. The group formed in 2023 following the culmination of the Dream Academy survival competition. They are known for blending K-pop training methods with Western pop production, having gained recognition for tracks like Touch and Gnarly.
