The New Radicals are back with their first new original song in nearly three decades. The group, known for their 1998 anthem You Get What You Give, released a track titled One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!) as part of the soundtrack for an upcoming romantic comedy also named One Night Only.
Gregg Alexander leads the group for this latest project. Since disbanding the New Radicals in 1999, Alexander remained active in the music industry as a prolific songwriter and producer. He co-wrote notable hits such as Murder on the Dance Floor for Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Lost Stars for Adam Levine.
The band had remained dormant until a 2021 reunion performance at the presidential inauguration parade for Joe Biden. Since that return, the group has been more active, including rerecording past hits and writing music for political campaigns. This new song marks their first original release under the New Radicals name since the 1998 album Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too.
The film One Night Only is scheduled for release on August 7. The soundtrack also features a cover of the disco track Love Is in the Air by King Princess and a film score composed by Este Haim. While the group has reissued past material in recent years, this song is the first fresh composition to arrive from the band since the late nineties.
