Tom Morello Previews New Solo Album With ‘Anti-Fascist’ Rock Song ‘Date Night’
Tom Morello is preparing for the September 25 release of his upcoming solo album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want. The project, released through Mom + Pop Music, features contributions from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, and Beartooth. Roman Morello also joins the lineup, writing a key guitar riff for the lead track.
The initial release from the record is the anti-fascist rock song Date Night. Morello based the track on the history of three Dutch women who fought the Nazis during World War II by luring officers into traps. The musician stated that he writes music for those who oppose racism and fascism, framing the track as a clear choice regarding which side listeners occupy.
This release follows his recent tour work with Bruce Springsteen and his appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. Morello is also organizing the Power to the People Festival, scheduled for October 3 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The event brings together a wide group of musicians including Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, and Public Enemy to mark a day of community action.
Fans can expect a mix of activist-focused tracks on the new album, including the previously released Adjourn It. The full record contains ten songs that continue his focus on social issues and political commentary. Morello maintains his output as both a recording artist and a live performer, with a performance set for Louder Than Life in Kentucky this September.
