Jersey Shore-set comedy ‘Wildwood’ in development at FX from ‘Derry Girls’ creator

Lisa McGee, the creator behind the hit show Derry Girls, is working on a new comedy project for FX. The series is titled Wildwood and centers on a group of college students from Ireland who visit the Jersey Shore in the summer of 2000. These characters arrive in New Jersey with no money, no visas, no plan, and no clue about what lies ahead.

The project is in development following a competitive bidding process and involves 20th Television. While Derry Girls focused on the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Wildwood serves as a spiritual successor. McGee will handle both creator and executive producer duties for the show.

FX is a network familiar with the region, as it is home to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The Jersey Shore continues to attract various television and film productions, with recent projects filming in Ocean Grove, Point Pleasant, and Cape May. It is not confirmed if Wildwood will shoot on location in the beach town that shares its name.
