The public commentary began after former co-host Rosie O’Donnell mentioned on a podcast that she and other previous hosts were asked to return for the anniversary. Collins expressed confusion regarding these statements, noting she was also absent during the show's 25th-anniversary events. She emphasized that she maintained a professional stance regarding her departure in 2016 and remains open to hearing from the production team if they choose to reach out.
Representatives for the program have since clarified the current status of the production plans. Executive producer Brian Teta confirmed via social media that while planning is underway, no formal invitations have been issued to any former co-hosts at this stage. A representative for O’Donnell also walked back the initial claims, noting that while there were informal mentions of guest appearances, no official requests exist.
Despite the lack of contact, Collins maintains she would welcome the opportunity to appear. Her exit from the show in 2016 followed a single season of tenure.
