Paramount+ has officially set the premiere date for The Varnell Hill Show. This workplace comedy features Tommy Davidson reprising his role as the talk show host first introduced on the sitcom Martin nearly three decades ago.
The eight-part series arrives on September 1. New episodes will release on Tuesdays through the season finale on October 13. The plot follows Varnell Hill as he navigates the modern entertainment industry, dealing with pressure from network executives, a chaotic writers' room, and his own ego while trying to sustain his television career.
Martin Lawrence joins the production as an executive producer and will appear in the series as a guest. He works alongside Tommy Davidson and Bentley Kyle Evans, who also serves as the showrunner, writer, and director. The ensemble cast includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, and Nick Cafero, with appearances by guests like Deon Cole and Damon Wayans.
Produced in partnership with BET Studios, the comedy aims to capture the spirit of the character while exploring his life behind the scenes of a talk show. The project reflects the ongoing trend of expanding familiar television characters into dedicated standalone series.
