Amazon Pharmacy is now offering weight-loss drugs for $50 per month to eligible Medicare beneficiaries. This move aligns with a federal bridge program designed to increase access to treatments like those from Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly. The service includes automated eligibility checks and home delivery to simplify the process for patients.
Patients can sign up by providing their insurance and Medicare details once a clinician submits an electronic prescription. Amazon states that most prior authorizations are processed in under 24 hours. The company is also scaling its same-day delivery service, which currently reaches over 3,100 cities in the United States, with plans to cover nearly 4,500 locations by the end of 2026.
This expansion follows Amazon’s earlier entry into weight-loss management through Amazon One Medical. Experts observe that retailers are increasingly viewing obesity care as a way to build long-term relationships with customers. While the focus remains on GLP-1 medications, the broader healthcare ecosystem is becoming a primary battleground for companies like Walmart, CVS, and Costco.
The current Medicare bridge program allows access to specific injections and pills through 2027. This initiative does not include single-dose versions of certain medications. Amazon reports that many claims have already moved through the system as the company expands its retail healthcare presence.
