Elijah Bieniemy, the 27-year-old son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, faces legal proceedings following the shooting of his mother at their Virginia residence. Authorities arrested him Monday on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. Court appearances for these charges are now on hold as the defendant undergoes a mental health evaluation.

His mother, 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy, received treatment for multiple gunshot wounds and has since left the intensive care unit. Her condition is improving according to reports from the coaching staff.

Eric Bieniemy remains absent from team activities while attending to his family. Head coach Andy Reid noted that the team continues to function in his absence, with staff members Joe Bleymaier and Andy Heck assuming his current responsibilities. The organization remains in communication with the coach as he manages the situation at home.

The Loudoun County sheriff’s office stated that the investigation remains active. They have not released a motive for the shooting at this time. Bieniemy continues to be held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center while the legal process waits for the results of the psychiatric assessment.
