Officials in Maharashtra have identified the cause behind 600 students leaving a tribal residential school hostel in the Amravati district. The mass exodus followed rumors that some female students were possessed after they displayed symptoms like uncontrollable crying and physical pain.

A medical team from the Amravati District General Hospital conducted a thorough investigation and determined that the students are suffering from Dissociative Conversion Disorder. This condition occurs when psychological stress or brain signal disruptions manifest as physical or neurological symptoms, such as tremors or paralysis, despite the absence of structural medical issues.

Medical experts emphasize that these events are not supernatural in origin. The report identifies academic pressure and environmental stress as primary contributors to the situation. The students are now receiving treatment in isolation, while their parents participate in counseling sessions to address the underlying causes of the distress.

Local authorities and the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti are working together to support the students and stabilize the situation. The goal is to return all students to the classroom within the next eight days. Officials have issued a strong appeal for the public to ignore rumors and rely on factual medical findings as the school administration moves forward with the recovery process.
