New mental health centre opens
The Federal Government has opened a new Medicare Mental Health Centre in Tuggerah to expand free health services on the Central Coast. Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Emma McBride confirmed the facility is now operational to provide immediate, walk-in support for residents.
Located at 3A/152-159 Pacific Hwy, the centre operates seven days a week. It offers assistance from a team of psychologists, social workers, and peer support staff. The facility aims to help anyone experiencing emotional distress or mental health challenges without the need for a formal doctor's referral.
This initiative is part of a wider government strategy to increase community-based care. By providing these services at no cost, the government intends to remove barriers to entry for local families and individuals seeking timely intervention.
The Tuggerah site is managed by Grand Pacific Health and commissioned by the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network. It complements existing regional resources such as the Kids Hub for children and local youth support services.
