Bringing physics down to Earth through rocket science
Science teachers often face a difficult task. They must bridge the gap between abstract equations and the physical world students experience every day. Trisha Muro, a former college lecturer and science journalist, addresses this challenge in her new book titled It’s (Just) Rocket Science: Exploring Physics Through Spaceflight Missions.
The book focuses on how space exploration provides a clear narrative for understanding core physics principles. Muro uses real-world examples ranging from the Apollo program to recent Mars rover missions to explain concepts like momentum, electromagnetic spectra, and general relativity. By framing these scientific ideas within the context of specific missions, the material becomes accessible to anyone curious about how spaceflight functions.
