Severe storms across Indiana and the northwest region have left a heavy toll on local wildlife. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources recently stepped in to manage the aftermath, collecting dozens of injured animals that were displaced or harmed during the recent weather events.
Among the animals currently receiving care are an adult bald eagle, several baby birds, and a number of infant mammals. These creatures were transported to the Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehab Center, where they are undergoing medical treatment and recovery.
The rescue center reports that they took in more than 40 individual animals on Wednesday alone. This sudden influx of patients puts significant pressure on the organization's resources and staff.
Because of the volume of animals in need, the rehab center is now requesting donations from the public. Contributions assist with the medical supplies, food, and specialized care required to nurse these animals back to health before they are eventually released back into the wild.
