A man sustained serious injuries during an encounter with a moose and her calf near Nederland on Friday evening. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the 6500 block of Magnolia Road on Winger Drive.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the man was walking his dog at the time of the encounter. Emergency personnel transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment. Officials did not release specific details regarding the nature of the injuries or how the interaction escalated.

Responding deputies did not locate the moose when they arrived at the scene. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials received a notification about the encounter following the event.

Local authorities remind residents and visitors to maintain significant distance from wildlife, especially when calves are present. Moose are highly protective and may display aggressive behavior if they perceive a threat to their young.
