A raccoon in Dallas named Mayonesa survived a harrowing experience after spending several days with a mayonnaise jar stuck on her head. The young animal wandered a local neighborhood while unable to eat or drink normally due to the container. Local residents spotted her multiple times, but she proved difficult for animal control officers to approach.
Dallas Animal Services officers Miller and Southerland finally succeeded in their rescue mission on Monday morning. They tracked the raccoon to a tree near an abandoned house. When the animal climbed down and moved past them, Officer Southerland successfully captured her.
After her capture, the team provided sedation, fluids, and necessary medications to treat her dehydration. Staff reported that she is in good physical condition despite the ordeal. Texas Metro Wildlife is now providing care for the raccoon before her eventual release back into the wild.
This incident highlights a growing issue with discarded household trash in urban environments. Dallas Animal Services urges residents to secure their waste, as common items like jars and cans pose significant dangers to local wildlife.
