Jackie, the well-known bald eagle from Big Bear, remains in critical condition following a recent medical setback. The Ojai Raptor Center reports that her blood values declined overnight, with her packed cell volume falling below 10 percent.
She is currently receiving intensive care, which includes around-the-clock monitoring, oxygen therapy, and specialized supportive treatments. Veterinary teams recently completed a contrast CT scan and a bone marrow biopsy. They are now working with specialists across the country to interpret these results and determine the best path forward for her recovery.
Jackie, often observed on the live nest camera with her mate, Shadow, has faced a difficult period of illness involving severe anemia and kidney inflammation. Earlier in her treatment, she received a blood transfusion from a donor eagle at the CALM Zoo to help stabilize her condition.
Wildlife officials note that while her situation is serious, the team remains focused on her welfare. They continue to prioritize medical decisions based on her immediate comfort and physical needs.
