Lifeguards at St Ouen's Bay in Jersey cleared the water earlier today following reports of a large shark sighting. Coastguard officials confirmed that a shark between 10 and 12 feet long was spotted roughly 130 feet from the shoreline at 10:40 BST. The animal reportedly entered the bay from the west before heading south.
In response to the sighting, authorities raised a red flag across the bay to prevent swimmers and surfers from entering the water. The beach remained closed for one hour while the RNLI conducted safety sweeps of the area.
No further incidents were reported during the inspection. Lifeguards reopened the bay to the public once they confirmed the area was clear. Local authorities continue to monitor the coast for any signs of returning wildlife.
