Charlie Woods faces playoff for match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur

Charlie Woods is currently positioned for a playoff at the U.S. Junior Amateur. After finishing the stroke play portion of the tournament at 5 over par, he finds himself on the bubble for one of the final spots in the 64-player match-play bracket. This performance marks the closest Woods has come to advancing in his three appearances at the championship.

During his second round on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley, Woods fired an even-par 70. His round included two birdies and an eagle on the par-4 13th hole, though bogeys on the back nine kept him right on the cut line. This follows a difficult start on Monday, where he recorded a 4-over 76 on the Old Course. Despite an early triple bogey, he stabilized his game by playing his final 13 holes in 1 under par.

This tournament carries added significance, as the trophy was renamed in honor of his father, Tiger Woods. The winner receives an exemption into the 2027 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and entry into upcoming U.S. Amateur tournaments. Woods, a senior at the Benjamin School, previously qualified for this field by winning a playoff at a qualifier in Florida last month.

The 17-year-old enters Wednesday morning’s playoff facing a competitive field. With a 14-player group vying for the remaining spots, Woods has the opportunity to advance to match play for the first time in his career. He continues to build experience at the national level following his recent commitment to play collegiate golf at Florida State.
