European Solheim Cup captain Anna Nordqvist has finalized her roster, selecting Leona Maguire as one of her four wildcard picks. This decision comes despite a challenging 2026 season for the Irish golfer, who has struggled to find consistency on the major championship stage. Maguire missed the cut in four of the five majors this year and currently sits at 83rd in the world rankings.
Nordqvist opted for Maguire based on her historical matchplay performance rather than recent form. Maguire has historically secured eight and a half points from twelve matches in previous Solheim Cup appearances. The captain stated that she prefers having the experienced competitor on her side, noting that Maguire brings a specific intensity to team environments that is hard to replace.
Joining Maguire as captain's picks are rookies Julia López Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud, and Mimi Rhodes. These new additions complete the European squad as they prepare to face the United States team in the Netherlands next month. The team already features automatic qualifiers including Charley Hull, Esther Henseleit, and Linn Grant.
Esther Henseleit heads to the tournament with momentum after a strong performance at the Women’s British Open. Henseleit recently lost in a playoff to Shiho Kuwaki after a challenging final round at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
