Michael Kim cards 15th-ever 59 in PGA Tour history at 3M Open

Michael Kim joined the record books at the 3M Open on Friday, firing a 59 at TPC Twin Cities to grab the outright lead. Kim sank a 24-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to seal the historic performance, marking the 15th time a sub-60 round has been carded in the history of the tour.

The bogey-free round was capped by four consecutive birdies on the final four holes. It is a significant turnaround for the professional, who missed the cut at his three previous events including the British Open and the John Deere Classic. Kim noted that after returning home to rest following the Open, he arrived in Minnesota with enough energy to sustain his pace.

Kim now sits at 14-under for the tournament and holds a three-shot lead over Ben Kohles. The pressure is already building for the weekend, but Kim says his current focus is to avoid playing too defensively on a course where water hazards are a factor on the final two holes.

This feat is the fourth 59 recorded on the tour since 2024. Jim Furyk remains the record holder for the lowest score, having carded a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship. With a three-shot buffer heading into Saturday, Kim looks to secure his second win since 2018.
