Scottie Scheffler finds putter again, contending after 6-under 65 at debut 3M Open
Scottie Scheffler is back in form on the greens after a productive first round at the 3M Open. Following a challenging outing at The Open Championship last week, the world number one carded a 6-under 65 on Thursday at TPC Twin Cities to immediately jump into contention.
Scheffler gained more than three shots on the field with his putter, a significant improvement from his recent performance. He successfully drained 134 feet of putts while carding six birdies and zero bogeys to keep his scorecard clean throughout the opening round. This performance marks his first appearance at the 3M Open, providing a major draw for the event.
His current statistics reflect a season of adjustment. While he ranks first on the PGA TOUR in scoring average and sits at the top of the FedExCup standings, his win total is lower than he expects. His single victory this season came at The American Express back in January.
He currently sits in a tie for second place with 54 holes remaining in the tournament. With his putting rhythm restored, he is positioned well to chase a second trophy for his 2026 campaign.
