Torrey Pines remains a fixture on the PGA Tour calendar. The storied venue in La Jolla will host events through 2028 and beyond, continuing a tradition that dates back to the 1968 San Diego Open. Beginning in 2027, the tournament will adopt the name The Sentry.

This transition follows the tournament's evolution within the league schedule. While the event will operate under its new title starting in January 2027, a significant shift occurs in 2028. At that time, the Torrey Pines tournament will join the PGA Tour Championship Series. This move places the venue among the select locations chosen for the tour's highest-tier competitive events.

The PGA Tour has moved to restructure its schedule, recently confirming other Championship Series stops including the Travelers Championship and a new event sponsored by Sompo. The full lineup for the 2028 Championship Series is scheduled for release in late January. This schedule will feature 23 to 24 events, encompassing major tournaments, the Players Championship, and the updated playoff formats.

Sentry Insurance continues its involvement as a title sponsor. Pete McPartland, chairman and CEO of Sentry Insurance, noted the importance of the partnership with the San Diego region. The agreement aims to maintain the high competitive standards at Torrey Pines while providing benefits to the local community through the tournament's presence.
