Travelers to be part of PGA Tour’s new Championship Series

The PGA Tour has confirmed that the Travelers Championship will be part of its new Championship Series when the elevated series launches in 2028. This move highlights the long-term success of the tournament held at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Andy Bessette, an executive at Travelers, stated that this inclusion validates two decades of hard work from fans, volunteers, and the tournament team. The event has been a staple on the tour since 1952 and has served as a $20 million signature event for the past four seasons.

This tournament joins a select group of 15 planned Championship Series events. These tournaments are designed to complement the major championships and other major fixtures on the calendar, such as the Ryder Cup and The Players. While the full list of host sites is still being finalized, reports indicate the tour has already secured most of the necessary title sponsors.

Each of these 15 events will feature 120-player fields, a 36-hole cut, and a $20 million purse. PGA Tour leadership noted that the Travelers Championship aligns with the specific criteria required for these elite-tier events. Further announcements regarding the remaining host sites are expected before the Tour Championship takes place in Atlanta next month.
