Burns is currently in his first full season with the Reds and has posted an 11-1 record. He holds a 2.54 ERA and has struck out 118 batters across 102.2 innings. His performance on the mound features one of the most effective sliders in professional baseball and a fastball that averages nearly 98 miles per hour. This velocity ranks him among the hardest-throwing starters in the major leagues.

This deal marks a significant financial commitment for the organization. It represents the largest contract ever awarded to a pitcher who has not yet reached the arbitration phase of his career. Only the contracts of Joey Votto and Ken Griffey Jr. exceed this value in the history of the franchise. The Reds view Burns as a cornerstone piece who will anchor the pitching staff alongside Hunter Greene.

Selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft out of Wake Forest, Burns reached the majors after a brief stint in the minor leagues.
