Dodgers won't rush Ohtani's return to rotation, Roberts says
The Los Angeles Dodgers are maintaining a measured approach to Shohei Ohtani’s recovery. While Ohtani is progressing through his bullpen sessions, manager Dave Roberts confirmed the team has no intention of rushing him back to the starting rotation.
Roberts emphasized that the focus is on postseason readiness rather than immediate returns. The Dodgers hold a significant lead in the National League West, allowing the staff to prioritize long-term health over short-term usage. Ohtani continues to contribute as the designated hitter, showing no adverse effects while batting.
Ohtani has not pitched since July 3 due to left knee irritation. He recently threw 30 pitches off a mound in Philadelphia and is expected to continue this routine as his physical condition allows. The staff remains fluid with his schedule to ensure he stays ready for the intensity of October baseball.
In addition to Ohtani’s status, the Dodgers are monitoring several other key players. Blake Snell is continuing his rehabilitation in Triple-A, and Tyler Glasnow is showing improvement while throwing to hitters. Closer Edwin Díaz is nearing his return after successful rehab appearances. These updates reflect the team’s current management of their roster to ensure the group is prepared for the playoffs.
