The Texas Rangers have activated shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day injured list. Seager returns to the active roster after missing 23 games due to lower back inflammation. He completed a two-game rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco, where he went 1-for-5 with a home run.
This injury limited Seager to 51 games during the current season. He previously missed significant time earlier this year with a concussion and separate back issues. He enters this series holding a .182 batting average with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs.
This roster move comes as the Rangers prepare for a critical weekend series against the Houston Astros. The Rangers currently sit in first place in the American League West, holding a narrow half-game lead over the Astros.
In addition to Seager, the Rangers added right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth to the roster following a trade with the Angels. The team also recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Curvelo from Triple-A Round Rock. Corresponding moves included optioning infielder Josh Smith and pitcher Winston Santos to the minor leagues, along with designating left-hander Marco Gonzales for assignment.
