Yankees lose Bellinger for 4-6 weeks with hamstring strain
The New York Yankees are facing a significant roster setback as All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger heads to the sidelines. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Bellinger will miss four to six weeks following a diagnosis of a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. The injury occurred late in Saturday’s victory against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Bellinger has been a vital presence for the Yankees this season, batting .259 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs across 102 games. His value has been most apparent on defense, where he currently leads the major leagues with 19 defensive runs saved. His absence creates a void in both the lineup and the field during a critical stretch of the schedule.
This news adds to a persistent injury issue for the organization. The team remains without slugger Aaron Judge, who has been out since late May with a rib injury, and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who is recovering from a calf strain. The Yankees currently sit three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead in the AL East as the trade deadline approaches.
In response to the roster move, the team recalled outfielder Spencer Jones from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Manager Boone remains focused on the depth of the current roster, noting that while the loss of key personnel is difficult, other players now have the chance to contribute as the team moves forward.
