NASCAR driver Alex Bowman to retire from full-time racing after 2027 season

NASCAR driver Alex Bowman has announced his decision to step away from full-time racing at the end of the 2027 season. Bowman, who currently competes in the No. 48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, shared the news on Thursday after securing a one-year contract extension.

The 33-year-old driver has faced significant health challenges over the past few years, including a back injury in 2023, a concussion in 2022, and a recent bout with vertigo that forced him to miss four races earlier this season. In his public comments, Bowman stated that he spent considerable time evaluating his future and concluded this is the right moment for him to make this change.

Since joining Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman has built a consistent record with eight career Cup Series victories and seven playoff appearances since 2018. Team owner Rick Hendrick expressed his appreciation for the driver’s contributions, noting that Bowman has represented the organization with professionalism and character throughout his tenure.

Bowman intends to finish his remaining time in the sport on a high note, with his current focus set squarely on competing for wins. He is on track to surpass 400 career Cup starts next season, marking a decade of full-time work with the Hendrick team.
