DAZN lands digital rights to MSG, YES networks; close to deals with seven other NBA teams
DAZN is set to become the primary digital home for MSG and YES networks this fall. This shift marks a major expansion into the U.S. market for the London-based streamer. By taking over the Gotham Sports app, DAZN will stream non-national broadcasts for the Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Sabres, Yankees, and Nets. This move establishes a foundation for the company as it prepares to compete for larger broadcast rights packages.
The company is also near final agreements with seven additional NBA teams, including the Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Pacers, Spurs, and Grizzlies. While these potential deals remain subject to league approval, sources indicate DAZN has offered flexible terms to teams as the NBA prepares for a centralized broadcast hub in 2027. Some of these agreements include one-year exit clauses, allowing teams to move to the league-run platform once it launches.
Financial arrangements with these franchises vary by market size, with guarantees ranging from $8 million to over $20 million per team. DAZN is also integrating revenue-sharing models that cover advertising and subscription fees. The company has secured backing from owner Len Blavatnik to fund these acquisitions and pursue future league-wide streaming rights. This strategy signals an aggressive play to establish a permanent footprint in American professional sports media.
Existing subscribers to the Gotham Sports App will see a migration to the DAZN platform in the coming months. Access for cable and satellite customers will remain unchanged, ensuring current viewers keep their service without additional fees. DAZN leadership views this as the initial phase of a broader plan to aggregate local sports rights across the country. They intend to use their current technology and infrastructure to meet the demands of these new regional partnerships.
