Thunder send Dort to Hawks in three-team trade, sources say

The Oklahoma City Thunder have executed a three-team trade that sends All-Defensive wing Luguentz Dort to the Atlanta Hawks. The deal results in significant roster movement across the league as teams look to manage salary cap restrictions.

Under the terms of the transaction, Oklahoma City acquired three second-round picks while also clearing salary space. This move helps the Thunder drop below the second apron and sheds $200 million in total costs over their recent stretch of trades including Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins. Oklahoma City exercised Dort's $17.7 million team option to facilitate the trade rather than letting him walk in free agency. This strategy nets the team three future assets and creates a $17 million trade exception.

For the Atlanta Hawks, the acquisition of the 27-year-old Dort adds a proven perimeter defender to their rotation. He joins a wing group that features Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Atlanta is now positioned with more than $40 million in projected cap space for next summer.

The trade also involves Zaccharie Risacher heading to the Dallas Mavericks and Ryan Nembhard moving to Atlanta. Risacher averaged 9.6 points per game last season and brings additional depth to Dallas as they continue to build their roster. Nembhard moves to a new environment in Atlanta after averaging 5.3 assists in his rookie season.

This series of moves illustrates how teams currently manage the complex financial structures of the modern game. By maneuvering to stay below restrictive salary thresholds, the Thunder have prioritized asset accumulation.
