The Golden State Warriors officially re-signed De’Anthony Melton on August 1 following his recent time as a free agent. The veteran guard secured a two-year, $11 million contract that includes a player option for the second season. The team utilized the taxpayer mid-level exception to finalize this agreement, which hard-caps the Warriors at the second tax apron.
Melton initially declined his $3.45 million player option in June, which allowed him to enter the market. During his 2025/26 campaign, he appeared in 49 games, including 24 starts. He posted career-high averages of 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals over 23 minutes per contest. While he struggled with his three-point accuracy, hitting only 29.4% from beyond the arc, he converted 50.5% of his attempts inside the line and 82.6% from the free-throw stripe.
His availability was hampered early in the previous season due to recovery from ACL surgery. Despite early speculation that he might depart for other teams such as the Phoenix Suns, he chose to return to Golden State. The organization views him as a key rotation piece as they attempt to move back into title contention. His specific cap hit for this season remains subject to the final team accounting as front office personnel finish their summer moves.
