Victor Wembanyama is taking charge of team preparation this offseason by hosting a group of San Antonio Spurs teammates in France for a week of intensive training. This gathering highlights the growing leadership role of the star player as the team looks to recover from their recent NBA Finals appearance against the New York Knicks.

Spurs CEO R.C. Buford noted the rarity of such an event, stating that having nearly a dozen players travel halfway around the world to train together is a direct result of the respect Wembanyama commands within the locker room. This trip marks the third time the center has returned to his home country this summer, as he continues to focus on both his physical development and team cohesion.

Wembanyama enters the new season coming off a career-best campaign where he secured the NBA Defensive Player of the Year title and earned a spot on the All-NBA first team. Despite facing health challenges, he played in 64 games and recorded significant increases in both scoring and rebounding output.

Beyond these workouts, Wembanyama remains focused on his individual progress, having spent time training with Hakeem Olajuwon earlier this summer. He also recently solidified his long-term future with the organization by signing a five-year extension and finalizing a new signature shoe deal with Nike.
