Duke-Michigan game in Miami called off; Blue Devils will instead face Texas Tech at MSG on Dec. 21
The scheduled December 21 basketball matchup between Duke and Michigan has been called off. The game, originally intended to take place at the home stadium of the Miami Marlins, faced numerous hurdles involving broadcast rights. Specifically, issues arose regarding conference television partnerships and the rights to air the contest, which moved the game away from its original vision.
Following the departure of former Michigan head coach Dusty May, who moved to the NBA earlier this summer, the two programs decided to move in a different direction. With the initial plan for a neutral-site game in Florida scrapped, Duke moved quickly to finalize a replacement opponent for the same date.
Duke will now face Texas Tech at Madison Square Garden on December 21. The two teams previously met at the same venue last season, where Texas Tech secured a narrow 82-81 victory. Both schools remain committed to the matchup at the arena in New York City, and contracts are currently being finalized to confirm the schedule.
This addition completes a dense week of basketball at Madison Square Garden near the holidays. The schedule includes several high-profile programs, potentially featuring eight ranked teams across four major games. Duke expects to enter the season as a top-five team, while Texas Tech looks to maintain competitiveness as they navigate their own roster developments.
