MM 7.27: Maryland men’s basketball busy on the recruiting trail
Head coach Buzz Williams is moving fast on the recruiting trail this summer. Despite a difficult first season, the Maryland men’s basketball program is locking in on future talent to improve the roster for the 2026-27 campaign and beyond.
Over the weekend, the staff extended several high-profile offers to prospects across the country. The most notable is four-star center Akol Nyok, a 7-foot-1 rim protector originally from South Sudan. Nyok has seen his national ranking climb to No. 131 as he gains attention for his shot-blocking and floor-spacing abilities.
Markus Kerr, a 6-foot-7 small forward from New Hampshire, also received an offer. Kerr is currently ranked as the No. 71 prospect in the class of 2027 and provides the staff with a versatile wing option. Additionally, the coaching staff is scouting the 2028 class, offering Texas point guard Bryson Campbell to secure an early pipeline for the backcourt.
These moves indicate a clear strategy to address current team deficiencies through targeted recruitment. Williams is focused on bringing in length and positional versatility to complement the current freshman group. With these latest offers on the table, Maryland continues to compete with other major programs for top-tier high school talent.
