Patriots second-rounder Gabe Jacas remains unsigned, did not report to camp
The New England Patriots are set to begin training camp, but one notable name is missing from the field. Second-round draft pick Gabe Jacas did not report for the start of the team sessions on Saturday. He currently stands as the only second-round selection in the entire league who remains unsigned.
Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the situation with the media on Friday. While he expressed confidence that an agreement will eventually come together, he stopped short of providing a concrete timeline for when the linebacker might join the squad. The status of his physical health remains a secondary question as the team waits for his arrival.
Jacas dealt with multiple injuries throughout the offseason program. Because he missed the entirety of those workouts, the coaching staff has yet to see him perform in a professional capacity. Vrabel noted that the team will need to evaluate the rookie's medical status once he finally arrives at the facility to determine how to proceed with his workload.
This delay marks a less-than-ideal start to a rookie career. Getting healthy and acclimated to the defensive scheme is a priority for both the player and the organization as the season approaches. For now, the Patriots move forward with their current roster as they await further updates on their missing defender.
