Cardinals' Brissett practices amid 'productive' talks for new deal

Jacoby Brissett participated in the Arizona Cardinals training camp practice today, marking his return to the field after missing the team's voluntary offseason program and mandatory minicamp. The quarterback was present on the field for drills alongside Gardner Minshew, Carson Beck, and Kedon Slovis.

While Brissett has returned to practice, discussions regarding a potential contract adjustment remain ongoing. Head coach Mike LaFleur characterized the situation between the team and Brissett’s representatives as productive. Brissett enters the season with a base salary of $4.88 million, including $1.5 million in guarantees, with the possibility of earning an additional $5.39 million through incentives.

LaFleur declined to label the current situation as a formal quarterback competition, stating his focus is on the team's initial progress during the opening phase of camp. The coaching staff is prioritizing getting Brissett integrated into the offense, including the team's cadence, formations, and no-huddle packages.

The team’s immediate focus is building consistency throughout training camp rather than peaking too early. LaFleur emphasized that the goal is for the team to be prepared by their mid-September season opener. For now, the focus remains on incremental improvement during non-padded practices before the transition to more traditional contact sessions later in the month.
