Eagles, DT Jalen Carter agree to four-year, $152M extension

The Philadelphia Eagles have secured their defensive interior for the long term. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter agreed to a four-year, $152 million contract extension. This deal includes $106 million in guaranteed money, making it the most lucrative contract for a defensive tackle in league history by both total guarantees and average annual value.

Carter, who turned 25 earlier this year, has earned two consecutive Pro Bowl selections during his first three seasons in the league. Despite a recent campaign interrupted by shoulder treatment, he remains a key piece of the Philadelphia defense. He has registered 13.5 sacks and 108 total tackles since entering the NFL.

With this agreement, the Eagles lock in Carter through the 2031 season. The deal removes uncertainty surrounding his contract status before the start of training camp sessions. Philadelphia traded up to select him ninth overall in the 2023 draft, and his production has met expectations as he becomes a cornerstone of their defensive unit.

The contract structure averages $38 million per year. By comparison, this surpasses other top defensive tackle deals across the league. The front office appears focused on maintaining continuity among its defensive front, as evidenced by this move and a recent extension for fellow defensive lineman Jordan Davis.

Following this signing, the team now shifts its focus toward preparing for the regular season. With his financial future settled, Carter is scheduled to be present when the team begins formal preparations on the practice field.
