Exclusive | Heartbreaking details of suicide notes Claude Lemieux left in his phone for family
New reports from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office provide insight into the final moments of former NHL star Claude Lemieux. According to official documents, Lemieux left behind several digital notes for his family before he died by suicide on May 28. Authorities discovered these messages after finding a physical note in his possession that contained specific instructions for accessing his phone’s records.
The documents describe these notes as heartfelt messages that reflect deep personal distress. Prior to his death, Lemieux had been involved in a confrontation with his wife, Deborah, regarding a potential relapse in his sobriety. Following this conversation, he left their residence and went to his business in Lake Park, Florida.
His son, Brendan Lemieux, became concerned for his father’s welfare and located him at the business property. Brendan contacted 911 for emergency assistance. Despite the presence of a container of sleep aids found near the scene, official toxicology reports returned negative results for all substances.
Lemieux maintained a career in the NHL that spanned from 1983 to 2009. During his time in the league, he played for several teams including the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils, securing four Stanley Cup victories. He was 60 years old.
