Predators trade for Bourque, Colton, Drury to bolster forward group
The Nashville Predators are shaking up their forward group for the 2026-27 season. After finishing sixth in the Central Division last year, the team brought in several new faces through trades and free agency to improve their roster.
Key arrivals include Mavrik Bourque, who signed a six-year contract after his stint with the Dallas Stars. The Predators also acquired Ross Colton from Colorado and Jack Drury, who signed a five-year deal. The team added depth with Adam Edstrom, Nils Hoglander, and Alex Kerfoot, while Ilya Lyubushkin joins to reinforce the defense. These moves come under the direction of Chris MacFarland, the new general manager who replaced Barry Trotz.
The front office intends to surround their young talent with players who have championship experience. This strategy aims to provide stability and professional guidance for prospects like Brady Martin and Joakim Kemell. While the team is deep at forward, the roster still lacks a clear No. 1 center. Ryan O'Reilly currently fills that spot, though management views him as better suited for a secondary role.
Despite the changes, Steven Stamkos remains a focal point for the offense after a 42-goal campaign last season. The fantasy outlook for Bourque is positive, as his move to Nashville should increase his ice time and role on the power play. With the regular season starting September 29, the Predators hope these additions result in a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
