Marino signs 8-year, $54 million contract with Mammoth

John Marino is staying in Utah long-term. The defenseman signed an eight-year contract worth $54 million with the Mammoth. This agreement carries an average annual value of $6.75 million and takes effect at the start of the 2027-28 season.

Marino recorded a career-high 36 points across 80 games during the previous season. He logged an average of over 20 minutes of ice time per game and emerged as a key puck-moving defender for the team. General manager Bill Armstrong noted that Marino brings a fresh physical state to the ice despite his experience level.

According to the organization, the move helps them manage their salary cap while keeping a core player in the lineup for the next decade. Marino cited the winning environment created by the team ownership and the strong connection within the locker room as primary factors in his decision to commit for the full eight years.

This contract extension keeps the 29-year-old on the roster well past his current deal, which expires after the 2026-27 season. Marino has played for three different teams throughout his career but has found a stable home in Utah since his arrival in 2024.
