Liverpool 4-2 Sunderland: Andoni Iraola makes winning start to life as Reds head coach
Andoni Iraola started his time as Liverpool head coach with a win. The Reds beat Sunderland 4-2 in their opening match of the summer tour in the United States. Kieran Morrison scored the first goal of the new era following a sharp team move after thirteen minutes of play.
Sunderland responded to take a 2-1 lead during the match, but the Liverpool side fought back after the break. Dominik Szoboszlai scored a powerful goal to equalize before Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas added two more to secure the result in Nashville.
While the offensive display provided a clear positive for the new management, the game brought injury concerns. Joe Gomez left the field early in the first half with a suspected muscle issue. With Ibrahima Konate’s departure earlier this summer, the health of the defensive squad remains a priority as preparations for the season continue.
