Caitlin Clark smacked in the face by WNBA legend after getting foul that could trigger fine in big win
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever secured a 108-88 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday, moving the team into first place in the Eastern Conference. Despite the win, the game featured notable physical moments involving Clark. Early in the first quarter, she received a technical foul after colliding with a screen set by Jonquel Jones. This is her sixth technical foul of the 2026 season.
Following the incident, Clark faced further contact during a defensive play when New York forward Breanna Stewart struck her in the face. No foul was assessed on the play. Fever coach Stephanie White stated she did not seek clarification from officials regarding either the technical foul call or the contact with Stewart.
Under league rules, the $1,000 fine for this latest technical brings Clark closer to an automatic one-game suspension for persistent foul accumulation. She is currently two technical fouls away from that threshold. The team plans to maintain its current momentum as they prepare for a matchup against the Connecticut Sun this Wednesday.
Clark, who contributed 17 points and seven assists to the Fever victory, did not speak with the media following the game. Teammate Kelsey Mitchell led the scoring efforts with 33 points, helping Indiana rally from a 13-point first-half deficit to complete the blowout win.
